# Headload workers’ strike in Kerala’s Mattancherry cripples export units

> Headload workers in Mattancherry, Kerala, have been on strike for seven days after the state welfare board withheld a festival advance of Rs 15,000 from over 100 workers. The stoppage has disrupted loading at the port area and affected several spice export units there. Trade bodies have called on the Kerala government to intervene.

## Why it matters

The strike affects a small regional port handling spices and other exports, so its effect on global feed-ingredient prices is minimal. Any impact would be limited to local shipments of spices and similar goods.
