# Europe’s animal feed sector more reliant on imports | Feed Strategy

> The European Commission's 2018-19 EU feed protein balance sheet shows total feed supply and feed protein self-sufficiency fell slightly as drought reduced forage growth. The EU used 180.7 million tonnes of crops for feed, of which 153.4 million were EU-origin, and imported 54.1 million tonnes of oilseed meals, with only 16.3 million from the EU.
