# African swine fever kills 61 pigs in northern Namibia-gov’t | 1330 & 101.5 WHBL

> Reuters reports that African swine fever has killed 61 pigs and infected nearly 200 more in northern Namibia's Omusati region, discovered the week before. Officials say there is no vaccine, so mass culling is the main response. The article also notes the disease has nearly halved China's herd since 2018.

## Why it matters

A localized outbreak in Namibia has minimal direct effect on global feed prices, though it adds to the broader pressure on pork supply and demand.
