# Ponding creates potential for crop damage | MU Extension

> University of Missouri Extension warned that intense or repeated rain could flood corn and soybean fields. Parts of southern Missouri received 25 to 30 inches of precipitation so far this year, and 3 to 5 inches fell in the first half of May. Waterlogged soils are more damaging in clay-heavy soils, and corn is more sensitive to flooding than soybeans.
