# EU soy imports linked to illegal deforestation in Brazil – Global Canopy

> Trase and Brazilian NGOs ICV and Imaflora found that 19% of soy imported from Mato Grosso to the EU in 2018, worth about US$295 million, came from farms linked to illegal deforestation. The EU imported roughly 3.9 million tonnes of Mato Grosso soy that year, mainly for animal feed.
