# Opinion: Mexican government undermining science and agriculture

> The Alliance for Science published the same critique of Mexico's government's stance on GM crops, saying AMLO's administration has opposed transgenic crops and appointed anti-GMO activists to key positions. It says a national ban on GM corn stopped research and limited farmers' access to drought and heat-tolerant seed technology. The article calls the policy damaging to producers and consumers.

## Why it matters

Persistent limits on biotech corn could keep Mexico's domestic production below potential and sustain demand for imported corn. The commentary contains no new policy action, so the price impact is expected to be small.
