# Fighting GMO Corn, for Mexico’s Soul (OPINION) - Latino Rebels

> An opinion piece argues that Mexico should ban genetically modified corn to protect native maize biodiversity, citing the country's role as corn's center of origin. The author frames the debate around the national slogan 'sin maíz, no hay país' during Independence Day month.

## Why it matters

Mexico is one of the largest buyers of US corn, so a tighter GM policy could eventually affect import demand for biotech yellow corn. The piece is advocacy with no new measure announced, so the near-term price effect is minimal.
