# Avian influenza: EU on alert for new outbreaks | EFSA

> The EFSA overview reports about 1,000 highly pathogenic avian influenza detections across 25 EU/EEA countries and the UK, with 592 in domestic poultry and most of those in France's duck sector. Seven human H5N8 cases in Russia, all poultry workers with mild or no symptoms, were also reported.

## Why it matters

Continued HPAI pressure on European poultry, concentrated in dense duck and poultry areas, could tighten local poultry supply and modestly support feed demand. The effect on feed grain and meal prices is likely small at this stage.
