# Rapid increase in global cereal prices

> NIGTA chief executive Robin Irvine says UK barley and wheat prices have risen over £20/t since August harvest start, driven by Chinese purchases of US corn and soybeans and fund buying. He says maize rose £35-40/t for local buyers and that barley is attracting more feed interest as the best-value cereal.
