# North rules in cattle numbers but south rules in value - The Namibian

> The Meatco 2020 annual report shows that only 35.7% of Namibia's 2.7 million cattle are south of the veterinary cordon fence, which is the only area with access to lucrative export markets. Northern cattle face foot-and-mouth restrictions that limit their access to the EU.

## Why it matters

Namibian beef pricing is split by disease zone, and the limited northern access keeps regional supply constrained, which has little direct effect on global feed or grain prices.
