# Salt water intrusion into Mississippi River could quickly cause issues, USACE stepping in

> The Mississippi River is running lower than usual for this time of year, at about 200,000 cubic feet per second, which is still strong enough to push salt water upriver. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is rebuilding a sill of dredged material to hold back the saltwater wedge, after last year's sill washed away.
