# France: Farmers step up winter barley sowing - beverage-world.com

> French farmers accelerated maize harvesting and winter wheat and barley sowing in dry, sunny weather, with 32% of the maize area harvested by October 18. Maize development is about 10 days behind the five-year average after a cool spring and summer, and heavy rain may slow fieldwork.

## Why it matters

A delayed maize harvest and slow crop development in France trim near-term corn availability, while normal sowing pace supports the outlook for next year's wheat and barley supply.
