# Unlocking Potential with Lock and Dam #25 – The Seam

> Lock and Dam #25 on the Mississippi River has not been modernized since 1939, and its 600-foot single chamber forces barges to double lock. ## Why it matters

Chronic lock delays reduce the reliability of U.S. barge logistics and can raise effective freight costs for soybean exports over time. This is a long-running structural issue rather than a new price shock.
