# Global food prices rise in January

> The FAO reports its Food Price Index averaged 135.7 points in January, 1.1% above December. Vegetable oil prices rose 4.2% to an all-time high on palm oil export concerns, strong soy oil import demand and tight sunflower and rapeseed oil supplies, and dairy prices rose for a fifth month.
