# War in Ukraine raises global shipping costs, stifles trade | UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

> UNCTAD published a report on 28 June 2022 finding that the war in Ukraine is stifling trade and logistics in Ukraine and the Black Sea region. Halted port operations, damaged infrastructure, trade restrictions, insurance and fuel costs have lengthened shipping distances and raised costs. Dry bulk grain transport costs rose nearly 60% between February and May 2022.
