# What is the EU Deforestation Regulation? - Fern

> The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) entered into force on 29 June 2023 and prohibits companies from placing products on the EU market unless they are deforestation-free, degradation-free and legally produced. It also makes exporting such products from the EU illegal. The rule covers seven commodities: wood, soy, palm oil, coffee, cocoa, beef and rubber.
