# Peru closes anchovy season with unfulfilled quota

> Peru's Ministry of Production closed the second anchovy season on January 13, 2024, after landing about 75% of the 1,682,000 ton quota. The quota had been set low because El Niño had an unfavourable impact on the anchovy fishery.

## Why it matters

El Niño-driven low quotas and unfilled catches keep fishmeal supply constrained, which supports fishmeal prices for feed buyers.
