# Winter-crop plant off to patchy start across Australia - Grain Central

> Australia's 2024-25 winter crop sowing is underway with only about 3% of national area planted so far. Australian Crop Forecasters estimate wheat area at 13.6 million hectares, barley at 4.4 million hectares, and canola down 4% at 3.2 million hectares. Dry conditions in Western Australia may cut planting and further reduce canola.
