# As El Niño Wanes, Food Security Pain Remains

> Researchers at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT warn of food insecurity in Latin America after one of the strongest El Niño events on record. Drought in 2023 exposed more than 800,000 rural people in Bolivia, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela, and reduced harvests are expected to keep food insecurity high into late 2024 and 2025.
