# Deforestation law: agreement with Council gives companies extra year to comply

> Negotiators from the European Parliament and Council reached a provisional agreement on 3 December 2024 to postpone the deforestation regulation. Large operators and traders must comply from 30 December 2025, and micro and small enterprises from 30 June 2026. The Commission cited concerns from member states, non-EU countries and traders about readiness.
