# Why is the price of eggs so high? - Poultry

> Michigan State University Extension links rising egg prices to HPAI outbreaks spread by migrating wild waterfowl. Since 2022, USDA has recorded over 1,400 poultry flocks affected in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Ohio, the second-largest egg-producing state, has lost over 10 million birds since late December 2024.
