# Chickens Before Eggs

> USDA's Chickens and Eggs report showed 285.1 million table egg layers on March 1, down 8.7 million from February and 28.3 million from a year earlier. That is the lowest March 1 count since 2011. Pullet numbers rose 5.5% year on year, and wholesale egg prices fell to $3.96 per dozen for the week of March 22 from a peak of $8.51 in early March.
