# Port Workers, Employers Push Long Beach Strike Threat to Nov. 4

> ILWU Local 26 and the Pacific Maritime Association agreed to extend contract talks for the watchmen at Los Angeles and Long Beach until 5 p.m. on November 4. The extension postpones a strike that could have halted cargo operations at the complex. The watchmen's contract has been expired since July 2025.

## Why it matters

The extension lowers the near-term risk of disruption to container freight through the busiest US port complex. The strike threat remains open if talks fail by the new deadline.
