# EU surveillance: Concerning data on animal diseases

> The EU's ADIS data for 2021 show African swine fever in wild boar in ten EU member states, with cases in Germany rising from 403 to 2,525. ASF was also found on pig farms in Estonia and Germany, and avian influenza was the second major disease in Europe. Bluetongue, bovine tuberculosis and West Nile virus also caused problems.

## Why it matters

Rising ASF in European wild boar and farms raises the risk of pork supply cuts and export restrictions. That supports lean hog prices and could reduce demand for feed in affected areas.
