# FAO and USAID combat the re-emergence of avian influenza in Niger

> Niger reported a new HPAI H5N1 outbreak on a farm in Niamey in early January 2022, and 99,022 poultry died or were culled between late December 2021 and January 2022. FAO and USAID are supporting the response, which focuses on surveillance and control of the disease.
