# North America prepares for arrival of ASF

> The USDA will host its third North American African Swine Fever Forum in Raleigh, North Carolina, from August 29 to 31, with government and industry from the US, Canada, Mexico and other regions. Topics include the US Protection Zone, depopulation readiness, surveillance and traceability during an outbreak. The forum draws on a North Carolina State model of ASF spread among southeastern US farms.

## Why it matters

The forum is a preparedness event and does not itself change current supply or demand. It signals ongoing vigilance against a disease that would be strongly bearish for hog prices if it reached the US.
