# China buys U.S. soybeans after Trump trade agreement

> China has resumed buying U.S. soybeans after a months-long boycott, but purchases since October 30 total only about 2.85 million metric tons. That is well short of the 12 million metric ton goal set in the trade deal, and officials say the target now runs to end-February.

## Why it matters

Renewed Chinese buying lifts U.S. export demand after a stall that had pushed futures to near five-year lows. The shortfall against the pledge limits how far prices can rise on this demand alone.
