# EXCLUSIVE: Romanian port can ship more Ukraine grain after collapse of Black Sea deal | Reuters

> Romania's Constanta port says it can handle more Ukrainian grain after Russia quit the Black Sea grain corridor. Constanta had already become Ukraine's main alternative route, handling about a third of its grain exports since the war began. The port handled 15.25 million tonnes of grain in the first half of 2023, up 24.5% year on year.

## Why it matters

Rerouting Ukrainian grain through Constanta and the Danube raises transit costs and congestion, which supports freight rates and can widen the spread between Black Sea and other origins. Spare Romanian capacity limits how far those costs rise.
