# Drought Status Update for the Midwest | September 20, 2024

> The September 17 U.S. Drought Monitor showed 33.3% of the Midwest in drought (D1-D4) and another 43.8% abnormally dry. Ohio has 30% of the state in extreme to exceptional drought, its first exceptional drought since the Monitor began in 2000. Low Ohio River flows are also pushing low water onto the Lower Mississippi, where the Corps is dredging and building an underwater sill.
