> Tyson's Finney County, Kansas beef plant, which slaughters about 6,000 head a day and 4.5% to 5% of national fed cattle slaughter, was closed indefinitely after a late-Friday fire on August 9. About 50,000 to 60,000 southern plains cattle must be rerouted to other plants. Heavy third-quarter supplies and rising slaughter weights add to the strain.
