The rand was one of several emerging-market currencies that weakened against the dollar on Friday as US bond yields rose and oil prices increased. USD/ZAR was up 0.14% on the day and 0.46% for the week, staying near the 14.50 level.
Analysts said a vaccine rollout and improving tax revenue could support further gains for the rand.
Higher oil prices raise South African inflation and can pressure the rand, which feeds into local import costs for feed. The direct impact on global feed commodity prices is limited.
