Australian grain and oilseed export capacity is estimated at just over 50 million tonnes for 2022/23, roughly 10 million tonnes higher than two years earlier. Winter crop production has set records in each of the last three seasons, reaching 67.3 million tonnes in 2022/23.
Exporters have invested heavily in new infrastructure to move the larger crops.
Expanded export logistics let more Australian wheat and barley reach world markets, which can ease the local price discount when capacity is tight. The investment also raises the risk of idle assets if future crops fall back.
