Economist David Rosenberg writes on April 14, 2023 that the Federal Reserve tightening cycle is ending, whether or not it hikes again in May. Using about 50 years of data, he reviews how asset classes performed between the last hike and the first cut.
He recommends Treasuries, defensive equities, and energy over base metals.
An expected Fed pause points to a softer dollar and lower financing costs over time, which can support commodity demand, though the analysis is an investment outlook rather than a supply or demand event.
