Bangladesh Railway's running staff launched an indefinite strike over mileage allowance, suspending rail cargo across the country. At least nine trains, including container, oil and wheat trains, were stranded at Chattogram port yards.
Officials warned of severe port congestion if the dispute is not resolved soon.
Stranded wheat trains and port congestion delay grain and feed imports into Bangladesh, which can raise local logistics costs and tighten short-term supply. The effect on global prices is small given the scale of the country's trade.
