France's farm ministry raised its winter soft wheat area estimate to 4.61 million hectares from 4.57 million, with total soft wheat area at 4.63 million hectares, up 10% from the rain-hit 2024 harvest. Durum wheat area is expected to fall 7% to its lowest in over 30 years, and rapeseed area was raised to 1.29 million hectares.
A larger French soft wheat area points to higher EU supply for 2025/26, which is mildly bearish for wheat prices, while the durum decline is supportive for durum markets.
