Ajay Goyal, chairman of the Wheat Products Promotion Society, said India is heading for one of its biggest wheat surpluses, with a potential record 117 million tonne crop and government stocks likely above 50 million tonnes by June 1. He said this makes a review of the wheat export ban almost unavoidable next year.
Rabi sowing is reportedly 10-15 days early, with acreage seen up 3-4%.
A large Indian surplus and a possible easing of export curbs would add supply to world wheat markets and pressure international prices. Domestic procurement and private trade would also shift.
