Global rice prices fell on Monday after India allowed exports of non-basmati white rice on Saturday. India had also cut its export duty on parboiled rice to 10% the day before.
Exporters said the move boosts global supply and gives poor Asian and African buyers cheaper options.
Resumed Indian white rice exports add substantial supply to the world market, which pushes prices down. Lower rice prices reduce the cost of rice as a substitute grain in feed.
