Oklahoma State extension economist Derrell Peel says the fed cattle market looks poised to break higher in late third quarter, with auction calf and stocker prices rising counter-seasonally. The August Cattle on Feed report showed July placements at 91.9% of last year and feedlot inventories at 98.1% of 2020 levels.
Lower feedlot placements and inventories signal tighter fed cattle supply, supporting cattle prices and tempering feed demand growth.
