Rumo, now Brazil's largest rail freight company, operates over 12,000 km of network across four concessions in Mato Grosso, São Paulo, Paraná and southwestern Brazil. Its fleet of 1,000 locomotives and 25,000 wagons mainly moves agricultural products from inland farms to export ports.
The company was formed after Cosan's takeover of ALL in a deal approved by Brazil's antitrust regulator in 2015.
Rumo's rail capacity largely determines how quickly Brazilian soybeans, corn and sugar reach export ports, so growth in its network supports Brazilian export flows and can ease bottlenecks that affect world soy and meal pricing.
