Credit Suisse analyst Ray Farris says the dollar index, down more than 2% for 2018, can weaken further even with the Fed widely expected to hike rates at its March 21 meeting. He notes that early stages of Fed hike cycles have historically seen the dollar fall for a period.
He argues the dollar has room to weaken until U.S. yields rise substantially.
A weaker dollar typically supports dollar-denominated commodity prices and makes US exports more competitive, which is mildly supportive for grain and oilseed values. The effect on feed costs is indirect and depends on how the currency move evolves.
