Global Canopy and SEI said the EU's proposals against tropical deforestation are too limited, noting the Commission's own feasibility study points to little impact without regulatory action. They note EU 2020 commitments on eliminating deforestation from palm oil, soy and beef will not be met.
Possible future regulation of deforestation-linked commodity imports would affect palm and soy supply chains, but the proposals remain non-binding and the effect on prices is distant.
