Maybank Research says Malaysian plantation growers are the clear winners as crude palm oil prices in Malaysia diverge from those in Indonesia. Indonesia's domestic market obligation has tightened global stocks and raised prices, and the requirement is rising to 30% from 20%.
Indonesia-focused growers are constrained because the obligated volumes sell at prices well below local market levels.
The domestic market obligation reduces exports to world markets and widens the spread between Malaysian and Indonesian palm prices, supporting global palm oil prices while Indonesian producers absorb the cost.
