Indonesia will raise its domestic market obligation so exporters must sell 30% of planned crude palm oil and olein exports at home, up from 20%, starting Thursday. The move is aimed at containing a surge in cooking oil prices, and daily cooking oil purchase quotas for consumers are also in place.
An analyst estimates palm supply could fall by about 100,000 tonnes per month.
Indonesia is the world's largest palm oil exporter, so a larger share of its output kept at home removes supply from global vegetable oil markets already squeezed by the Ukraine war. Tighter exports support palm oil and soyoil prices.
