The US Cattlemen's Association formally opposed a USDA APHIS proposal to allow fresh chilled or frozen beef imports from Paraguay. The group cites estimated producer losses of $12 million to $23 million annually and concerns over foot-and-mouth disease risk.
If the rule is finalized, added Paraguayan beef supply could pressure US beef and cattle prices, though the volume is small relative to domestic production and the rule remains only proposed.
