Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports the Netherlands was the EU's largest importer of non-EU soy, palm oil and cocoa in 2022, most of which is re-exported. Wood imports have more than doubled over two decades, and the food industry is the largest user of these goods.
The data highlight the Netherlands as a key European entry point for soy and palm oil, so the EU deforestation rules could affect flows through Dutch ports.
