The UN Development Programme describes the EU Deforestation Regulation as the most ambitious attempt worldwide to tackle deforestation. It notes imports of beef, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soya, rubber and wood will require geolocation-based proof of origin, and says the rule may later extend to maize and biodiesel.
A possible extension to maize and biodiesel would widen compliance costs into feed grains and biofuel feedstocks. For now the story is commentary, so price impact is minor.
