US LNG exports fell in January to 11.3 million metric tonnes, down from December's record of 11.5 MT, as a late-month winter freeze shut some plants and reduced output at others. Spot gas prices hit all-time highs in several US regions in the last week of January while output dropped to a two-year low.
LNG companies sent cargoes to several East Coast and Canadian terminals to take advantage of the high prices.
Lower US LNG output and freeze-driven supply losses tightened domestic gas and raised feedstock and energy costs for ethanol and feed processors. Higher natural gas prices also lift the cost of drying grain and producing DDGS.
