Oxford Economics reported that Morocco's mining and chemical industries fell sharply in the second quarter of 2026, with extractive value added down 28.6% year on year and the chemical production index down 29.5%. The consultancy linked the drop to the Gulf conflict, which has disrupted sulfur and ammonia imports that Moroccan fertilizer production depends on.
Disrupted sulfur and ammonia supply raises input costs and limits output at one of the largest phosphate producers, which supports DAP prices. Buyers of phosphate-based feed minerals should expect continued cost pressure while Gulf shipping remains disrupted.
