EFSA reported around 5,300 HPAI detections in poultry, captive and wild birds across 36 EU/EEA countries and the UK in the 2021-2022 season, the largest on record. About 46 million birds were culled on 2,398 poultry outbreaks, and HPAI H5 may have become endemic in European wild birds.
