# C.Vale becomes first Brazilian company to achieve ASC Feed Standard certification for tilapia

*Brazilian cooperative C.Vale has become the first company in Brazil to receive Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Feed Standard certification for its tilapia feed plant, completing ASC coverage across all three stages of the tilapia production chain: feed manufacturing, fish farming, and industrial processing.*

Brazilian agricultural cooperative C.Vale has become the first company in Brazil to obtain Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Feed Standard certification for tilapia feed production, according to a report published by Aquafeed.com on 2 October 2026.

The certification of C.Vale's feed plant means the cooperative now holds ASC standards applicable across all three stages of the tilapia production chain. The company had previously achieved ASC certification for fish farming and industrial processing, establishing a tilapia value chain covered end-to-end under ASC standards.

According to the report, C.Vale's milestone builds on earlier achievements in the sector. The cooperative first obtained ASC certification for tilapia production in earthen ponds in 2024, covering its integrated producers and fish processing plant — a first for any cooperative in Brazil at that time. By 2026, its producers had completed their third consecutive year meeting the requirements of that standard.

Samantha de Mello Bastos, quality supervisor at C.Vale's feed plants, said the feed certification extends the cooperative's sustainability focus upstream into the supply chain. "We are not looking only at the fish being produced, but also at the origin of the ingredients, supplier responsibility, traceability, and the environmental and social impacts associated with feed production," she was quoted as saying.

The report states that the recognition reinforces C.Vale's practices around the control and traceability of raw materials used in fish feed, responsible use of natural resources, and efforts to reduce environmental impacts associated with the activity.

C.Vale is described in the report as the only Brazilian cooperative to hold ASC standards applicable to all three stages of the tilapia production chain.
